Why Ceramic coating?

Ceramic is pretty much the best thing invented in the history of automotive paint protection. It has all the benefits of car wax, plus a lot more, with none of the drawbacks. Plus, it looks amazing! With the high gloss additional protective layer of ceramic, a coated vehicle looks absolutely stunning! If you're considering ceramic coating in the greater Grand Rapids area, let Ceramic Wizards Paint Protection answer any questions you have and provide a free estimate for your vehicle!

Hydrophobic surface

Like wax, ceramic repels water (and water-based contaminants like bird droppings and acid rain) like nobody's business. Unlike wax, it lasts a really long time.

Depth of gloss

If you like that high-gloss shine of new factory paint, you'll love the glossy finish build-up of ceramic. It takes high-end glossy finish to a whole new level!

Maximum protection

Ceramic is one of the hardest known substances, right up there with diamond. Who wouldn't want an ultrahard, durable shield over their paint?

Why clear bra / Paint protection film / PPF?

Why Paint protection film, also called clear bra or PPF? Because you like your car to look nice, right? Nobody likes their Bumper, rocker panels, hood, and mirrors looking like the surface of the moon with all those stone chips. In fact, the only reason we can think of why you wouldn't want a clear bra is if your car already did look like the surface of the moon, in which case we're too late to do you much good.

Xpel PPF for the win

Ceramic Wizards Paint Protection is an authorized Xpel dealer / installer. Why do we choose Xpel? Because it's the best clear bra product on the market, that's why! Xpel Paint protection film gives you ultimate protection combined with near-invisibility (complete transparency) along with a bunch of other cool properties! If you're looking for a Grand Rapids Xpel installer, you can't do any better than Ceramic Wizards Paint Protection!

Rugged protection

How tough is Xpel Paint protection film? Super tough. It's also available in three thicknesses, so if you're planning on bushwhacking, you could opt for the ULTIMATE PLUS ™ 10.

Otherwise, the Stealth, ULTIMATE PLUS ™ or ULTIMATE PLUS ™ 7 should be more than enough protection for everyday attacks against your paint job.

Self healing properties

Xpel introduced the first self-healing PPF to the market in 2011. Since then, their self-healing properties have continued to advance.

If your clear bra gets light scratches, scuffs, or scrapes, schedule a Ceramic Wizards Paint Protection appointment and we'll buff those imperfections out while heating the thermoplastic urethane with a heat gun. It's a spa day for your car!

Gloss finish or matte finish

Xpel Stealth Paint protection film has a flat or matte finish, whereas their Ultimate Plus lineup is gloss. They both look fantastic, so it's really a matter of what aesthetic you're going for.

Plus, they both offer exceptional protection against road debris, self-healing properties within the elastomeric polymer itself, and are both terrific automotive paint protection film options!

Ceramic Q&A

Here are some questions we see a lot, and our best responses to them.

How much does it cost to get your car ceramic coated

To get an exact estimate, please contact Ceramic Wizards Paint Protection and we can give you a quote. We will say that Ceramic coating is far from cheap, but it is well worth it for a fine car. The protective layer of nano ceramic will extend the life of your car's paint job tremendously.

How long does a ceramic coating on a car last

Depending on the ceramic coating package and your upkeep, a nano ceramic coating can potentially last the life of your vehicle! It offers unmatched protection and is far more durable than ordinary vehicle wax. It offers diamond level hardness in a thin, clear, protective layer that has hydrophobic properties. Pretty cool? We think so.

Why is ceramic coating so expensive

When asking why Ceramic Pro or other ceramic coatings are so expensive, you need to understand that a nano ceramic coating is a highly-engineered paint protection product applied by a trained professional in a controlled environment.

Most professional ceramic coating products are not even sold to the general public, as the manufacturers want to ensure that their product is applied correctly. In order to become an officially-recognized applicator of Ceramic Pro, Geyeon, or other high-grade ceramic coating products, a tech must receive appropriate training on use of these professional grade products.

Finally, the product itself is quite expensive. So, when you pay good money for a ceramic coat, you're paying for a) the ceramic coating kit, b) paint correction on your vehicle to remediate microscopic imperfections prior to the ceramic application, c) the labor of the applicator, d) the training and expertise the applicator possesses to get your ceramic car coating perfect, e) the shop overhead.

Is it worth getting a car ceramic coated

When asking if it's worth it getting a car ceramic coated, the answer is that it really depends on the car. Ceramic coating isn't cheap, so if your car is worth a few hundred dollars, then no, it's not worth it. On the other hand, for a high-dollar car, ceramic is absolutely worth it.

Given that the condition of a car's finish is a huge aspect of its resale value, ceramic coating for cars can pay for itself many times over when applied to expensive vehicles and subsequently maintained. Having this durable, diamond-hard layer of protection shields the paint layer from corrosion, UV rays, bird droppings, and other undesirable substances. So yes, for a nice vehicle, a professional grade ceramic spray coating is most certainly worth it.

Can you mess up ceramic coating

Yes, you can easily mess up ceramic coating, which is why most of the professional grade products are reserved for experts who have completed the manufacturer training for a given product. When it comes to ceramic coating for cars, it's probably not worth attempting it yourself, especially if your car is a nice one.

Can I apply ceramic coating myself

Attempt DIY coating with ceramic at your own risk. There are so many ways to get a ceramic clear coat wrong, which is why professional applicators are certified via manufacturer trainings.

What happens when ceramic coating wears off

When a ceramic coating wears off, it will happen very gradually over a long time, until eventually you'll be back down to your car's factory paint clear coat finish. That said, some of the best ceramic coatings are designed to last the life of your vehicle with proper care and upkeep.

How do you maintain ceramic coating

Each manufacturer will have specific guidelines for maintaining their ceramic car coating. Talk to your ceramic installer after the application process is complete and get detailed upkeep instructions based on the specific product applied to your factory paint.

Does ceramic coating prevent rust

Ceramic coating is not guaranteed to prevent rust, per se, but it does create an additional layer of protection that's even better than your factory paint sealant. Its hydrophobic properties will bead water off better than anything else, so it certainly reduces the likelihood of rust ever occuring.

Is ceramic coating better than wax

Ceramic coating is far better than wax. Like wax, it is a hydrophobic coating. Unlike wax, it contains ceramic nanoparticles that provide an ultrahard additional layer of defense that lasts for a very long time and offers unmatched protection against water spots, harmful UV rays, acidic contaminants, most hazards. The protective barrier of ceramic is so far beyond that of wax that they're not even comparable. Ceramic really is the ultimate protection.

Clear bra / PPF Q&A

Do modern cars need paint protection?

Yes, modern cars need paint protection film as much as any other car. Vehicle Paint still chips, and the rugged Polyurethane of Paint protection film is designed to withstand small rocks and road debris.

Is clear bra protection worth it?

When considering whether clear bra is worth the money, it's important to consider the Kelley Blue Book value of your vehicle and the condition of its paint. If we assume for a moment that the clear bra will cost $800 (a fairly average cost for Paint protection film), and you drive an $80,000 car, then the marginal cost of 1% of your car's worth will definitely pay off in the long term in the resale value of your car.

On the other hand, if you drive a $700 car, paying the value of your Vehicle to protect your Vehicle doesn't make any sense at all. In between these examples, you have to factor in how long you plan to keep the Vehicle, how many freeway miles you log (more paint chips happen at high speeds, which happen on a freeway), and how good or bad the paint currently is (more worthwhile to protect pristine paint than already-chipped paint).

Can I polish PPF?

There are many different brands of PPF that behave differently. Some would respond better than others to buffing. Additionally, there are different types of buffing, so a light buffing may be fine on many clear bras while a heavy polishing would not. So, when thinking about buffing a clear bra, you should definitely follow manufacturer recommendations. If you're going to try buffing your clear bra, try starting on an unobtrusive area to see how the clear bra responds!

Can you wax over paint protection film

Probably, but make sure to follow manufacturer recommendations for the particular brand of Paint protection film on your vehicle, and match the wax to their instructions. For example, we at Ceramic Wizards Paint Protection install Xpel PPF, and the Xpel website has the following to say about waxing their PPF films:

"While you can wax the film, be sure the product you are using doesn’t contain Naphtha or Kerosene in concentrations over 5%, and avoid waxes that contain dyes. For best results, we recommend using our XPEL Flawless Finish Paint Protection Film Sealant or XPEL Ceramic Boost.

This product has been specially formulated for use with polyurethane paint protection films to provide the maximum protection and gloss, while containing no ingredients that would cause discoloration over time."

Can paint protection film be removed

Xpel clear bra film is designed to come off without damage to your car's paint. If it was properly applied by a certified Xpel installer such as Ceramic Wizards, clear bra should come off easily enough. Now, why you'd ever want to remove your car's protective film is another story for another day!

Which is better paint protection film or ceramic coating

Paint protection film (PPF) and Ceramic coating are two totally different product classes. While each offers a type of automotive paint protection, they do so in very different ways. To get ultimate protection, you should have both. However, if you're considering one or the other, it helps to know what each does and does not do.

Ceramic coating is an ultrahard clear coat that adds an additional protective layer over your car's paint job. It excels at keeping corrosives away from your paint. Ceramic coating has hydrophobic properties like wax does, but unlike wax, it is made of one of the hardest substances known to science. It provides amazing protection against bug splatters, bird droppings, tree sap, hard water deposits, and other acidic or corrosive elements.

PPF, also known as clear bra, does one thing and does it well: protects against impact-related damage. While it's not going to stop a major impact from hurting your car, it will protect against all the minor stuff, which is 95% of what wears down your paint. Road debris rock chips. Scuffs. Scrapes. Minor scratches. That sort of thing.

So, which is better? They both are. If you're logging a lot of freeway miles, clear bra is a must-have to protect your front end from getting chewed up. If you want overall corrosion protection over your entire vehicle, Ceramic is the way to go. If you can afford it, by all means go for both!

How long does paint protection film last

Paint protection film can last a decade or more, but that really depends on a lot of factors, like what brand of PPF, whether the car is washed and cared for frequently, whether the car is stored indoors and outdoors, how much sun the car gets, and many other factors. Here at Ceramic Wizards Paint Protection, we use Xpel clear bra products, in part because of the awesome Xpel 10 year warranty, but also because their stuff is just amazing overall.

Is it worth getting paint protection on a new car

A hundred times yes, paint protection on a new car is so worth it. Whether you're opting for Ceramic coating, clear bra, or both, you have a chance to protect your pristine paint from bird droppings, road debris, bug splatter, and other enemies of your factory finish. Brand new is the best time to get paint protection!

How much does it cost to get paint protection film

Paint protection film cost varies widely by installer, region, brand of PPF used, model of vehicle, and what "package" (different amounts of surface coverage of different vehicle components) you're opting for. To get an exact PPF installation quote, contact Ceramic Wizards Paint Protection and we'll get you sorted!

What is the best paint protection film

There are many good Paint protection film products on the market, and we don't know that there is a single "best PPF." That said, we're big on Xpel self healing paint protection film and we believe it to be one of the best, if not the best, clear bra brand for automotive applications. Which is why we offer Xpel clear bra (Xpel Ultimate, Ultimate Plus, Stealth, and the rest of the Xpel lineup) to our customers.

If you're interested in an Xpel PPF clear bra installation for your car, Pickup truck, van, SUV, or other vehicle, contact Ceramic Wizards Paint Protection today to schedule your install!

Does paint protection film really work

Yes, Paint protection film works amazingly well at stopping most of the common rock chips and other small damage to your factory paint. More than 90% of what wears down a car's paint job are the small nicks and dings, not the big events. And those small nicks and dings are exactly what PPF is designed to defend against.

Does removing clear bra damage paint

No, removing a clear bra does not damage the factory paint of your vehicle, so long as the clear bra is of a high quality. Clear bra films from Xpel, 3M, Avery Dennison, Ceramic Pro, and other respected manufacturers are designed to come off cleanly.

Just be sure to follow manufacturer instructions for Paint protection film removal, which can be found on the website of the respective clear bra manufacturer. As a general rule, it's always best to have a trained professional perform PPF removal, just as it's better to have them do PPF installation.

How long does it take to install a clear bra

Obviously, it takes different lengths of time for different clear bra installers depending on their experience. It's extremely important to make sure the PPF film lays correctly and has no air bubbles. Here at Ceramic Wizards Paint Protection, our PPF installs take anywhere from 2 to 5 hours depending on the vehicle and the amount of coverage we're going for.

Can you wash your car with a bra on it

Yes, you can wash your car with a clear bra on it. Just follow manufacturer recommendations, easily available on the website of 3M, Avery Dennison, Xpel, Ceramic Pro, or other Paint protection film manufacturers.

Xpel, for example (the PPF brand used here at Ceramic Wizards Paint Protection), recommends allowing the film to cure for 48 hours. After that curing period, it can be cleaned with a pressure washer, though they do say not to aim the pressure washer directly at the film edge.

Does clear bra hide scratches

A clear bra is a completely transparent clear coat Polyurethane film and nearly invisible to the naked eye, so whatever's below it will show right through. That includes scratches. So no, Paint protection film will not hide scratches, nicks, dings, stone chips, or other paint blemishes.

How much does Xpel clear bra cost

Xpel clear bra installation is not cheap by any means, but it is worth its weight in gold for its preservation of your car's value. There's a pretty wide range of clear bra costs, depending on: your vehicle; the "package" you opt for (there are different levels of coverage), and other factors. If you'd like an exact quote, then contact Ceramic Wizards Paint Protection and we'll get you one!

Can you clay bar Xpel?

Xpel says  that its Paint protection film can indeed be detailed with clay bar, the same as one could do to automotive Paint. If anything, in our experience, Xpel clear bra responds even better to clay bar Auto detailing than Paint does!

Car wrap Q&A

Here are some common car wrap questions, and our best responses to them.

How much does it usually cost to wrap your car

If you're doing something higher-end like a chrome wrap, color flip, or carbon fiber wrap, you'll spend a lot more than if it's a regular vinyl color change wrap. Depending on your type of vehicle, most "standard" Vehicle vinyl wrap projects will be from the high $2000s to the mid $3000s.

Be cautious of cheaper bids, as they're cheaper for a reason. Many lower-end vinyl vehicle wrap shops compromise on installation process, material quality, surface prep, or all of the above. You won't notice the difference until 6 months down the road when your car wrap starts to delaminate from your vehicle paint.

If you want nothing but the best Grand Rapids car wrap, contact Ceramic Wizards Paint Protection for a free estimate! We stand behind our work 100% of the time! Just give us a call at (616) 207 4925!

How long does a wrap last on your car

A good Vehicle vinyl wrap should last several years at least, though there's a wide variance of lifespans for the exact same wrap depending on weather exposure, upkeep, and other factors. Furthermore, you can greatly extend the life of your vehicle wrap by protecting it with Ceramic coating, the same as you'd protect your vehicle paint!

Are car wraps durable?

Vehicle vinyl wraps are not immune to damage, but a high-quality brand such as Avery Dennison or 3M can last a long time if they are properly installed, and if they are properly cared for while on the Vehicle. Gently wash the Vehicle vinyl wrap regularly and, if possible keep it out of the sun--especially for extended exposure.

Quality of the Vehicle vinyl wrap material matters. A lot. Cheap or off-brand vinyl may look great when first installed, but may likely fade or bubble after a few months. Say you spent $1,700 on a wrap with some low-quality brand and saved $900 by doing so. You thought you saved $900, but you actually flushed $1,700 away.

Plus, who knows what adhesive that off-brand manufacturer used on the Vehicle vinyl wrap? It’s possible that the failed vinyl may not come cleanly off the car. Maybe it will leave adhesive residue, or take some vehicle paint with it.

Basically, poor-quality vinyl can lead to a horror show. Do yourself a favor and use Vehicle vinyl wrap from proven brands. Again, 3M and Avery Dennison are the top two, but there are others who are good as well.

Quality of the installation matters as well. Some Vehicle graphics companies may cut corners on preparation, for example, whereas a good shop will spend adequate time cleaning the Paint from even hidden contaminants that may adversely affect adhesion.

Finally, once the Vehicle vinyl wrap is installed, how the Vehicle owner cares for it, and how the Vehicle is stored also matters. Is it left in the sun? Is it washed frequently with a gentle soap? Similarly to Paint, proper care and storage will extend the life of the vinyl vehicle wrap.

If you want to really go the extra mile, Ceramic Wizards Paint Protection recommends you have your Vehicle vinyl wrap Ceramic coated. Nano ceramic coating is an amazing technology that works wonders for wrap longevity and appearance.

Is wrapping your car worth it

Asking if a Vehicle vinyl wrap is “worth it” is like asking if full coverage insurance is worth it. Depends on the value of the Vehicle. A good Vehicle vinyl wrap is not cheap, but if the cost is marginal to the value of the car, then of course the value is there and is “worth it.” Especially if your Paint is in good condition. A car wrap will preserve your Vehicle finish and thus preserve its resale value.

If the cost of the Vehicle vinyl wrap equals the value of the car, it may not make financial sense to wrap it, but you still may want to for other reasons. See, there are more ways for something to be “worth it” than monetary logic, which is why we people take vacations. For example, maybe you really want that cool camo wrap and can afford it—so why not?

Now, if you're talking about a company car wrap (Wrap advertising or Vehicle Graphics), the return-on-investment is 95% positive. Whether you just need your business logo and phone number on your truck door in a custom car Decal, or you want to wrap your entire vehicle in branded fleet graphics, you'll get tremendous advertising value from custom design professional vehicle graphics.

Can a wrapped car go through a carwash?

Ceramic Wizards Paint Protection recommends avoiding automatic car washes. If you want to be absolutely certain you're in the clear with whatever washing you're doing, following Manufacturer recommendations is the surest bet. For example, Avery Dennison says the following about their Vehicle vinyl wrap with regard to Automatic car washes:

A brushless automatic car wash with just spray is acceptable. The automated brush wash is not recommended as the brushes may scratch the vinyl surface, catch and lift the edges of the vinyl wrap, reduce the gloss finish and/or create a failure point.”

So there you have it, from the horse’s mouth. Use automatic car washes with care, and make sure they don’t have brushes.

Can wrapping a car damage it?

An inexperienced or amateur installer could potentially damage Vehicle Paint while installing a Vehicle vinyl wrap, but a trained and certified car wrap professional is always careful to avoid amateur mistakes such as cutting vinyl on the car.

Properly done, a Vehicle vinyl wrap will never damage the car, but will do the opposite: extend its lifespan by protecting the Paint finish. If you're considering evaluating car wrapping vendors, make sure you choose one with the portfolio and reputation you can trust.

Ceramic Wizards Paint Protection is one of the top West Michigan vehicle wrap companies, and we place quality foremost. Whatever your type of vehicle, we will make sure to get it perfect!

Can you ceramic coat a wrap?

Yes, you can Ceramic coat a color change car wrap or Vehicle Graphics. In fact, here at Ceramic Wizards Paint Protection, we always recommend it. Ceramic coating will protect and preserve the vinyl, and will make washing and care so much easier. The durable Ceramic will keep bird droppings and other corrosives off of the Vehicle vinyl wrap--just as it does for Vehicle Paint.

Can you wrap a car any color?

Manufacturers of Vehicle vinyl wrap products each release their own color palettes. When considering if you can wrap a car literally ANY color, the answer is no, and almost. No, because you’re constrained by the color selection that the vinyl wrap manufacturers have released. Almost, because they have released a LOT of colors. In most cases, between 3M and Avery Dennison, you’re almost certain to find something to fit the bill.

Can you wap a car with paint chips?

Yes, you can wrap a car with Paint chips, but the divots will probably show through the vinyl. Vehicle vinyl wrap does not hide any underlying flaws. Depending on the size and depth of the paint chip, it may show right through the vinyl as an indentation.

You're always better off getting a vinyl wrap (or clear bra) before your paint gets chipped. Barring that, you could consider having a small amount of paint or body work done. Again, it really depends on the severity of the chipping. Getting the opinion of a professional wrap installer BEFORE you decide on a wrap is always a good idea.

If you're anywhere in or around Grand Rapids, feel free to show Ceramic Wizards Paint Protection and we'll tell it to you straight! Just give us a call at (616) 207 4925 to make sure we're around and available!

Does car wrap fade?

Some car wraps fade quite badly over time, but others don't. The difference between those that fade and those that don't? It's probably down to the following two factors:

1. The quality of the Vehicle vinyl wrap itself. Top-tier vinyl manufacturers such as Avery Dennison and The 3M Ceramic Wizards Paint Protection have invested considerable into their materials science and their wraps hold up well. Other brands, not so much.

2. The amount of sun exposure. The quality of the vinyl matters, for sure, but let’s face it: the sun is harsh on surfaces, and that includes even the most quality Vehicle vinyl wrap. A top-quality wrap kept out of the sun will far outlast a top-quality wrap on a Vehicle exposed to lots of solar radiation.

Smart owners of a wrapped vehicle invest in Ceramic coating, which protects and extends the life and luster of the vinyl.

Can you wrap a car white?

Absolutely, you can wrap a car white. Not just white, but any number of shades of white. Or sheens: you can wrap your Vehicle satin white, pearlescent white, gloss white, off-white, and so many other variations on white.

If you're considering a white Vehicle vinyl wrap, your biggest challenge may be deciding which white is right for you. If you're in or around Grand Rapids, MI, feel free to call Ceramic Wizards Paint Protection at (616) 207 4925 for a consultation on the types of white available from top manufacturers of Vehicle vinyl wrap!

Can you wrap a Tesla?

Yes, of course you can wrap a Tesla. Many Tesla owners take such pride in their magnificent whips that they happily invest into personalizing them. After all, whether you drive a Model X, Model S, or any Tesla model, driving a Tesla is already something of a statement; but driving a Tesla in a totally different colorway than any other Tesla on the roads? That’s taking prestige to a whole different level. If you’re a West Michigan Tesla owner, let Ceramic Wizards Paint Protection handle your Tesla Vehicle vinyl wrap!

Can you wrap carbon fiber?

Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer, commonly called carbon fiber or abbreviated CFRP, should not be wrapped over. This is not to say that it absolutely cannot be, but given that there are so many weaves of carbon fiber, and so many different types of Vehicle vinyl wrap from so many different manufacturers, the safest bet is to not do it.

Plus, why in the world would you want to? Carbon fiber is expensive and trendy, and if you’re lucky enough to have it on your Vehicle you should let it show! Here at Ceramic Wizards Paint Protection, we're usually putting carbon fiber wrap onto a car to cover up other surfaces, not covering up the Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer on the Vehicle!

Do Car Wraps come off easily?

The ease with which a wrap comes off depends on the following factors:

• The quality of the wrap when it was originally applied. Vehicle vinyl wrap from high-quality manufacturers like 3M and Avery Dennison is designed to come off easily, leaving your paint intact. Low-quality brands may use cheap adhesives that leave an absolute mess, or worse, take off some of your Paint.

• The duration of time the wrap has been on the Vehicle. Newer wraps will come off easier, all other things being equal.

• The amount of sun exposure the wrap had, and also the temperatures. Heat and sun baking a wrap year after year can make a nightmare of wrap removal, especially if the wrap was poor quality to begin with (see above).

So, ideally, you’ve used a quality Vehicle vinyl wrap from a respected manufacturer, have kept your vehicle out of extended sun exposure, and are opting for removing your wrap before its expiration date. Bravo. Now, if you  want Ceramic Wizards Paint Protection to help you with your removal, call (616) 207 4925 with the details and we’ll be happy to help!

Does a vehicle wrap ruin the paint?

No, a vehicle wrap does not ruin the paint, unless it is a very poor quality product. Stick with top-tier brands of Vehicle vinyl wrap and you'll be fine. Not only does a Vehicle vinyl wrap NOT ruin the paint, it actually preserves it by shielding it from small road gravel (that would otherwise cause rock chips), bird droppings, and other corrosive influences.

Does Chrome wrap scratch?

Does chrome Vehicle vinyl wrap scratch? Sure, if you scratch hard enough! Don't scratch it.

How do I protect my vinyl wrap?

You can extend the life of your Vehicle vinyl wrap by keeping your Vehicle out of the sun as much as possible and also by keeping the wrap clean with regular washing. If you want to really protect it, opt for Ceramic coating, Paint protection film, or both. Ceramic coating contains actual Ceramic nanoparticles that bond in an ultrahard finish to shield your Vehicle vinyl wrap.

Paint protection film, or clear bra as it is often called, is a tough, transparent Polyurethane that can be applied over your Vehicle vinyl wrap on the front end (Bumper, Hood, Fenders, etc) to absorb road gravel.

Does carbon fiber wrap look real?

There are many types of vehicle vinyl wrap that look like Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer, commonly known as carbon fiber. Some of these have the actual carbon fiber texture, while others are completely smooth and only look like carbon fiber from a slight distance.

Can you wash a wrapped car

Can you wash a car that has Vehicle graphics or a Vehicle vinyl wrap? The short answer is yes, you can wash a wrapped car. The longer answer is you may want to be careful in doing so. 3M, on of the most respected Vehicle vinyl wrap manufacturers, recommends using “a wet, non-abrasive detergent such as 3M™ Car Wash Soap 39000 or Meguiar’s NXT Generation® Car Wash or Deep Crystal® Car Wash and a soft, clean cloth or sponge.”

They then instruct that one “rinse thoroughly with clean water. To reduce water spotting, immediately use a silicone squeegee to remove water and finish with a clean microfiber cloth.” Regarding automated car washes, 3M says that “vinyl wraps may be run through car washes. Touch less car washes are the best for graphic care. Use of brush car washes (depending upon the frequency and quality of brush) may cause dulling/scratching/lifting edge of the graphics.” So there you have it, right from the manufacturer.

Other manufacturers, such as Avery Dennison, have similar recommendations. Here is an excerpt from Avery Dennison’s instructions for the washing and care of a Vehicle vinyl wrap:

“PVC films behave similar to automotive paint if left in constant contact with dirt, grime and contaminants, it will eventually degrade, especially if left un-clean, exposed to UV light and/or heat. It is recommended that vehicle graphics should be cleaned on a regular basis or whenever it appears dirty. Ideally, a vehicle wrap should be cleaned every 2 weeks.

This ensures that optimal visual appearance is maintained for the life of the wrap. Spot cleaning of surface contaminants like bugs, bird droppings, tree sap and tar is required immediately after it appears, as it can stain and damage the PVC film. This is also true of gasoline and other fuels. Spot cleaning with Avery Dennison Cleaners …or Isopropyl Alcohol and a clean non-abrasive rag. It is crucial to remember that chemicals can damage a wrap or even paint. Always test these solvents in an inconspicuous area prior to cleaning the wrap.

Always rinse the surface with clean water following the use of any cleaning agent. Chemicals should be free from abrasive components. pH balance of the chemicals should be between 5 and 9. Do not use any aromatic solvents such as acetone, M.E.K., toluene, paint thinner or lacquer Thinner. A waterless wash or spray wax can also be used as long as the vehicle isn’t too dirty. These products can help maintain the gloss level and performance of the film. If the vehicle is not overly dirty, this is the preferred method. Avery Dennison’s Wrap Care Cleaner, Power Cleaner and Sealant are recommended for maintaining vinyl wraps.

When hand washing, the first step is to pre-rinse the vehicle with clean water, thus avoiding scratching the surface. Gently wash with a mild soapy water solution and a sponge, start at the top of the vehicle and work down. Avoid abrading the film surface with unnecessary scrubbing. Rinse the wrap thoroughly with clean water when finished. Allow the wrap to dry naturally or to aviod water spotting immediately use a silicone squeegee to remove water and then finish drying with a Chamois, micro-fiber towel or soft non-abrasive towel. Be careful to not lift the film edges.

Detergent should be free from abrasive components, strong solvents and alcohols. Detergents should have a pH balance between 5 and 9. Always test the detergent in an inconspicuous spot on the vehicle wrap before using.”

Basically, wash your Vehicle wrap, use automated car washes with caution, follow manufacturer recommendations, and otherwise don’t stress too much about it.

A historic furniture-manufacturing center, Grand Rapids is home to five of the world's leading office furniture companies, and is nicknamed "Furniture City". Other nicknames include "River City" and more recently, "Beer City" (the latter given by USA Today[6] and adopted by the city as a brand).[7] The city and surrounding communities are economically diverse, based in the health care, information technology, automotive, aviation, and consumer goods manufacturing industries, among others.Grand Rapids is the childhood home of U.S. President Gerald Ford, who is buried with his wife Betty on the grounds of the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum in the city.[8] The city's main airport and one of its freeways are also named after him.The city skyline shows the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel, formerly the Pantlind, which reopened in 1981 after extensive renovations by Marvin DeWinter & Associates. This work included the addition of a 29–story glass tower offering panoramic views of the city, river and surrounding area. The Pantlind Hotel's original architects, Warren & Wetmore, were inspired by the work of the Scottish neoclassical architect Robert Adam. In its prime, the hotel was rated as one of the top ten hotels in the US. The hotel features several restaurants well known in Grand Rapids, such as Cygnus. The hotel is owned by Amway Hotel Collection, a subsidiary of Amway's holding company Alticor.Other prominent large buildings include the JW Marriott Grand Rapids, the first JW Marriott Hotel in the Midwest. It is themed from cityscapes of Grand Rapids' sister cities: Omihachiman, Japan; Bielsko-Biała, Poland; Perugia, Italy; Ga District, Ghana; and Zapopan, Mexico. When the hotel opened, Amway Hotel corporation hired photographer Dan Watts to travel to each of the sister cities and photograph them for the property. Each floor of the hotel features photography from one of the cities, which is unique to that floor. Cityscapes of these five cities are alternated in order, up the 23 floors. The city's tallest building is the River House Condominiums. Completed in 2008, it is a 34-story (123.8 m) condominium tower and stands as the tallest all-residential building in the state of Michigan.
